Originally from San Bernardino CA, Joseph Tate practices primarily in the Midtown area of Sacramento. Working under Steve Memering(realism/fantasy) and Don Hatfield(impressionism), both veteran Northern Californian established artists. His permanence lies in his extraordinary attention to detail coupled with a naturally strong sense of aesthetic. Self-taught for years, Joe became serious after taking one of Steve Memering’s workshops after in 2007. Joe has already established a solid foundation in a thriving Sacramento art culture, and will no doubt be an influence in decades to come. His work represents a youthful emergence into the local art scene. Sometimes brassy, sometimes timid: his work remains unpredictably vivid despite his principled and stoic exterior. Joe's paintings give the viewer a playful melange of reactions to consider. Weather you are looking at an impressionistic piece with Asian influence and a hint of gravitas stirred in, or a cutesy doodle that finalized in an explosion of color and cosmic swirl the authenticity that Joe's art exudes comes from a "do it yourself" background in independent art workshops and tattoo artistry. Hence we see his work combine both hazy abstraction along with bold, punchy designs that just scream "Ink." His early pieces are mostly oil, but recently he has acquired a penchant for acrylics and has also dabbled in watercolors, pen & ink, and even metal. Joe's work will always continue to evolve as he acquires, adopts, and adjusts his focus--his technique.
